Joke
Article Picture LiFest 2000 was awesome and it was so much more comfortable traveling in the 15 passsenger van the church rented for us.  Thank you to Sandy Cook for suggesting that we call Mid Montcalm Travel to secure the van.  We appreciate so much having the funds in the youth fund to cover such expense.

The Team Teens met at the church at midnight, Thursday, July 13th.  Doc and I had a plan to gather at the church, review the rules, answer last minute questions, say a prayer, load everyone in the van, and they would all sleep until we hit Milwaukee in the morning.  Okay, so everything went as planned until that last part.  In fact, many of the kids never slept until Friday night so they slept HARD on Friday night.

We met up with the youth from Our Lord's United Methodist Church (OLUMC) in Milwaukee at noon on Friday July 14th.  The youth leaders at OLUMC are Lori and Dave McDonald....our eldest daughter and her husband.  Their youth group had just rreturned from a mission trip for one week before we arrived for the LiFest weekend.  So some of their youth could not attend the weekend with us, however, on our final night in Wisconsin more youth joined us at the OLUMC church for a sleep over.

The youth from OLUMC (they had 10 youth) and the Team Teens (we had 14 youth) gathered together at their church for lunch and a few "ice breakers".  Both groups were anxious to meet one another so they didn't take long to bond.  Then we divided up the two groups and mixed them togheter for their ride to Oshkosh....it was a drive full of happy chatter in both vans.

We arrived at the fairgrounds at Oshkosh, registered our vehicles, got our wristbands and then went to locate a plot of ground and set up camp.  Most of the area we could see was covered with tents and campers.  The kids were ready to go "mosh" in the mosh pits (for any that haven't been to a mosh pit it is simply the area directly in front of the stage where people dance and jump up and down and "mosh").  So, we let them out and told them a place to meet up with us later.

Our campsite turned out to be located a stone's throw fromt the second stage, "The Arena", and many really good bands played there.  Also, inflatable games were between the Arena stage and our campsite, so along with the open areas...that weren't too big....where the kids could toss footballs and frisbees, we were never lacking in things to do.

The weekend was full of great memories, but more importantly, it was a time for all of us to be with thousands of others who have very similar beliefs.  Each of us are traveling our road of faith at our own pace and with our own experiences.  Sometimes it is very helpful to know that we aren't alone and others are working at the same thing.

Dates for the LiFest 2001 are July 12 through July 15th and we already have 12 kids signed up to go this year.
